This post is all about the best retro stocking fillers ideas for a child! The toys, which were ACTUALLY made by elves *wink*. The best eco-friendly wooden and metal toys which will keep your little ones entertained for a while at least, while you finishing off the Christmas meal prep!
I was on the lookout this year for some fun, but simple toys for our little Natalie and came across so many lovely old-fashioned toys and games that decided I need to share them with you all!
In the fast world of plastic and electronic devices, there is something magical and special for the little ones, to know that the elves in Santa’s workshop, are able to only work in natural materials such as wood and metal. Oh! and it is good for the environment too if they care to know about that!
1. Wooden Transforming Vehicle Robot
2. Set of Three Toy Robots
It’s also great to see that it’s made from sustainable wood conforming to EC EN71, ASTM F963 and CPSIA toys safety standards.
If your little one is anything like ours and they love to build and tinker then they will love these little robots. They are going into the stocking this year at our house!
3. Jitterbugs In Wooden Boxes
4. Mechanical Jumping Grass hopper
If your child loves insects, Santa’s elves could’ve made them this toy! They have jiggling legs and own little wooden homes.
It doesn’t get more retro than that! Again, it’s a perfect stocking filler for the bugs loving child.
5. ‘Mouse in a Matchbox’ (Travel Version)
6. Mouse in a Matchbox. Another Beautiful Cotton Toy
Little friends in a matchbox amused children already in Victorian times. These days, no one does them better than LEVLOVS brand. All natural materials!
I couldn’t help but include one more from an Increadible 75 figure collection of these cotton toys. These aren’t cheap but the quality is second to non.
7. Wooden Acrobatic Monkey
8. Retro Slingshot Hockey Game
A simple but fun toy for the little ones. Squeeze and monkey performs somersaults on a string.
If you have two children needing entertaining themselves for a few precious moments, this slingshot hockey should do the trick!
9. Mechanical Jumping Frog and friends
10. Mini Mechanic In A Tin, Build It Yourself Plane toy.
Wind-up tin toys are as old as our great grandparents, and they never stop amusing the little munchkins!
Our Natalie will be getting a frog this year.
Perfect retro stocking filler. Ages 6+ great engineer’s project for the little hands. This one however isn’t fully metal which is a big shame. I couldn’t find any fully environmentally friendly. I love the idea though, so you would need to decide for yourself.
11. Wooden Memory Game
12. Hand Eye Coordination Ball Catching Cup
Roll a dice and remember where the correct colour pin is. Educational memory, group game which is quiet! Perfect!
It may look simple, but it’ can give children a good challenge, and it is addictive! You may find it fun yourself!
13. Clockwork Retro tin Race Car
14. Basically r2d2 Wind-up Mini Robot! So cool
The perfect elf made, Retro stocking filler. Made out of tin and wind-up old fashioned race car. My grandad probably collected these! haha We have to get it for our little boy in a couple of years when he is old enough!
It’s on a pricey side for a stocking filler, but for a Star Wars fan? Might be just the thing to make their day. I wouldn’t buy it for a very small children though as the wind-up key is a choking hazard.
15. Wooden Mini Tabletop Skittles
16. Non-Toxic Wooden Harmonica
A handcrafted tabletop skittles. These don’t need introduction. I thought they were done so beautifully. Great for both younger and older children to kill some time.
I think it’s an ideal gift for a musical child. It’s educational and introduces young children to an original instrument. Also very retro, metal variety if you prefer here!
17. Handmade Magic kaleidoscope.
18. ‘Make your own’ Eco-Friendly Wooden Glider
This is a brilliant sensory toy. Children can open the glass and see anything in a repeated pattern. Clever! Kaleidoscope was invented at the beginning of 1800s!
Nice to see the companies are trying their best at using only Eco friendly materials. This particular kit comes with watercolour pencils, brush, sharpener, wooden bolts, stars, stickers and eco glitter glue.
19. Mini Handheld Space Pinball
20. Hape Wooden Dolls House Accessories
This one is a classic. Perfect non electronic handheld game. Not so eco-friendly but as I came across it, the nostalgia hit me hard!
Our little girl loves these. I think the fact they are made so simply is what’s making them so good at imaginative play.
